Texas High School Football Huddle
Drew Brees, who led Austin Westlake to the Class 5A championship in 1996, is one of eight men that will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in April.
Brees was 28-0-1 in his two years as a starter at Westlake. He completed 314 of 490 passes for 5,461 yards and 50 touchdowns.
Also being inducted in ceremonies at Baylor University's Ferrell Center in Waco on April 30th will be former Texas A&M head coach Emory Bellard, who led Breckenridge and San Angelo Central, to state titles in the 50's and 60's.
Other inductees are Bobby Lackey of Weslaco, Pat Culpepper of Cleburne, Junior Miller of Midland Lee, Harvey Williams of Hempstead and Quan Cosby of Mart.
Houston Chronicle staff writer David Barron, the former managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, will be inducted in the special contributor category.
